Code of Conduct

The Yale Club of Japan is committed to fostering an inclusive, respectful, and welcoming community for alumni, students, and guests of all backgrounds and generations.

All members and attendees are expected to:

  • Treat others with courtesy and respect.
  • Engage in conversations that are welcoming and allow for mutual participation.
  • Respect personal boundaries and social cues.
  • Avoid behavior that makes others feel pressured, intimidated, or uncomfortable.
  • Respect when others wish to end a conversation, move to another discussion, or decline further interaction.
  • Avoid unwelcome, persistent, or excessive attention directed toward any individual.
  • Be mindful of differences in age, gender, culture, and professional status, and contribute to an environment where all participants feel included and safe.
  • Refrain from discriminatory, harassing, or demeaning comments or conduct.

Club leaders reserve the right to address conduct that undermines the welcoming and inclusive nature of Club activities. Responses may include a private conversation, written warning, event-specific limits, removal from an event, temporary suspension, or exclusion from future events.

Member Support and Reporting

The Yale Club of Japan encourages members and guests to share concerns about conduct that negatively affects their experience at Club activities.

The Board may designate one or more officers or board members to serve as Member Experience Contacts. Members and guests may confidentially approach these individuals to discuss concerns, seek guidance, or report conduct that they believe is inconsistent with this Code of Conduct.

Concerns raised will be handled discreetly and shared only with those who have a legitimate need to know in order to respond appropriately. The Club will make reasonable efforts to protect privacy while maintaining a welcoming and inclusive environment for all participants.

Members and guests should feel comfortable raising concerns in good faith. The Club will not tolerate retaliation against anyone who reports a concern or participates in addressing one. Retaliation may include pressuring, confronting, excluding, or treating someone adversely because they raised or may have raised a concern.
